Answers To Naturally Remove Scars

by: Martha Fitzharris

Quick and easy information access has been a consequence of the fast development of technology. Thus, more and more people over the world are gaining with all the aspects of the Medias, from news to fashion.

It?s a general tendency for people to be vainer with themselves caused by the effects of lots of advertisements that depict the essence of being beautiful as an important element that leads you to successfulness. No wonder why a lot of people are so much into cosmetic surgeries these days. All of them want to improve or enhance their appearance for being physically acceptable in society.

Consequently, one of the most undesirable problems in a person?s appearance is face scars. Whether it is caused by acne or other incidents that resulted in wounds, scar is an unsightly spot in the skin.

Scar develops if there?s an abnormal function of the skin cells and it may rise shiny and thin, hard and rough, white or dark textured, depending each case. Sometimes it can be reminded where the wound was ?stitched-up?, others the scar can be so tough and fibrous that it interferes with the body?s capability to move a joint.

Experts say that it is easier to take measures to minimize a scar early than to having to correct one later. That is why it is very important to remove the scar as early as possible.

Scar Remover

There are many products in the market today that had been proven to be effective in removing scars. These products range from gels, healing creams, and other skin care products. There are also surgeries and other operative procedures that are used to remove the scar. Patients may choose whether they want to have it removed through laser treatment, plastic reconstructive surgery or natural treatments.

Reconstructive surgeries are performed to repair extra-visceral defects, malformations congenital or acquired and to restore and prevent further loss of function as well. Wherever, plastic surgeries are done most of the time for esthetic and cosmetic improvement; it is applicable to many parts of the body and numerous structures, in these types of treatments, living tissue may be transferred from one part of the body to another.

The natural way, always best

There are instances where people would rather use natural methods instead of the artificial or commercialized form of treatments. The main reason is that many people feel that they are better with the natural methods instead of undergoing several painful procedures.

The best way to remove a scar is to apply skin care products that contain natural ingredients known to effectively eliminate scars.

Today, examples of natural scar removers are those that contain vitamin C. It is considered a natural antioxidant that neutralizes the skin and effectively promotes the speedy reproduction of healthy skin cells more efficiently and safely.

Another effective product for scar treatment is Bio Skin Care cream witch have biological activators that trigger the self healing process of the skin. It only has natural elements with no side effects that surely enhance your skin.

So, people who really want to remove scars in an effectively and safely way, better do it trough natural treatments. It will always be better ?in the natural way?.

About The Author

Martha Fitzharris is a free lance journalist for http://www.naturalbioskincare.com a website offering a new biological natural skin care product that activates skin renewal for a healthy skin.

The Hottest Cosmetic Surgery Trends Today

by: Dakota Caudilla

Today, cosmetic surgery is an extremely common procedure carried out on both the young and the old. Most cosmetic surgery patients want to look good, nip and tuck a little bit here and there in an effort to hide evidence of the aging process. Statistics show that most cosmetic surgery patients are women, but there seems to be an influx of men who are unafraid of going under the knife in order to look good. Hence, cosmetic surgery is now common in both women and men. And in this modern era, cosmetic surgery patients want to get optimal results from cosmetic surgery without having to fork out the insane amount that cosmetic surgery used to cost some decades back. Therefore, more and more ways continue to be developed to satisfy the needs of consumers.

Once upon a time, facelifts and liposuction were the only options open to cosmetic surgery patients. Other untested and unproven cosmetic surgery methods were called ?high-risk? or ?alternative? cosmetic surgery methods. When the cosmetic surgery procedure comes with a term like ?high-risk?, consumers tend to be more hesitant.

While previous methods of cosmetic surgery aims to CHANGE the way a person looks, modern cosmetic surgery methods aim to help the patient look better, healthier, younger without having too much of their facial features or body parts altered. Indeed, patients show that they want the cosmetic surgery to be done as quickly as possible, as noninvasive as possible and require as short a recovery time as possible.

Instead of pulling, nicking and tucking skin away, the latest that the cosmetic surgery world has to offer is the noninvasive form of cosmetic surgery; the facial fillers. Instead of pulling skin tighter in an effort to reduce wrinkles, the facial filler cosmetic surgery method is a form of hyaluronic acid injected to fill out parts of the face to reduce signs of aging. Facial fillers also help erase unsightly acne scares, chicken pox scars or simply provide the face with more meat. It has been shown that this type of non-invasive cosmetic surgery lasts longer than collagen itself. And furthermore, undergoing this cosmetic surgery procedure, there is no risk of developing an allergic reaction associated with other types of facial fillers available in the market today!

Botox is also an extremely popular cosmetic surgery method. Botox helps relax the miscles, fades wrinkles slowly and fill in deep laugh and frown lines. Botox is also a non-invasive method that helps etch away the signs of aging slowly and inexpensively.

About The Author

Dakota Caudilla, journalist, and website builder Dakota Caudilla lives in Texas.
What You Need to Know About Soft Contact Lenses

by: Daniel Irwin

Soft contact lenses are unquestionably the most commonly prescribed contact lens available. Made of soft, flexible plastic, it is estimated that about 87% of contact lens wearers in the U.S. wear soft lenses.

Brief History

In 1971, Bausch & Lomb introduced the first commercially available soft contact lens. For years, this conventional soft daily wear lens was the only type of soft contact lens available. This lens ideally was meant to last between 6 and 12 months and required daily cleaning and weekly enzymatic treatment.

In 1981 the FDA approved the first contact lenses approved for extended or overnight wear.

It wasn?t until 1991 that the first frequent-replacement contact lenses were sold. Frequent-replacement contacts are typically replaced every 1 to 3 months. The next year, 1992, disposable contacts (disposed every 2 weeks or less) were introduced.

In less than a decade, frequent-replacement and disposable lenses became the lenses of choice for the vast majority of eye care providers. Today approximately 75% of soft contact lens patients are wearing some sort of frequent-replacement or disposable lens. Frequent-replacement and disposable contacts are available as both daily and extended wear.

Soft Contact Lens Options

As implied, daily wear contacts are removed and cleaned daily, while extended wear lenses can typically be worn continuously for up to 7 days (or more as CibaVision?s Focus? Night & Day? contacts have been approved for up to 30 days continuous wear).

Disposable contacts are, as the name implies, disposed on a regular period, while the non-disposable contacts are cleaned and disinfected before reinserting the contacts.

Patients who choose extended wear should be aware of the added risk of eye infections and complications that come with sleeping in contacts. I typically discourage extended wear, but will fit contacts as extended wear only after the patient understands the added risk and agrees to be seen for more frequent follow-ups. I also will use a silicone hydrogel lens material for these patients.

Types of Soft Contact Lenses Available

Soft contact lenses are available for a variety of visual corrections.

For patients with significant astigmatism, I will often use a soft toric contact lens. Toric contacts have improved greatly over the last few years. Indeed, many patients who have never been able to wear contacts due to their astigmatic prescription are now able to successfully wear contact lenses.

Soft bifocal contacts are a relatively recent option for patients requiring a reading prescription or bifocal. Along these same lines, monovision continues to be a good option for these same patients. Monovision correction does not use a bifocal contact, but rather uses one contact for the distance vision (usually the dominant eye) and one contact for the near vision.

Soft contact lenses come as either clear or with a visibility (handling) tint. The visibility generally has no effect on eye color, but is there to help you see the lens while you?re handling it. These lenses are not the same as cosmetic soft contacts.

Cosmetic soft contacts have been popular sellers since their introduction. Now patients with or without a prescription can change the color of their eyes with colored or tinted contacts.

CibaVision?s Wild Eyes? contact lenses and CooperVision?s Crazy Lenses are novelty lenses that are fun to fit around Halloween.

Concluding Thoughts

Part of the reason for the success of soft contact lenses is the comfort these lenses offer over rigid gas permeable (RGP) contacts. As a result, they have a much shorter adaptation period. However, in some cases with soft contacts, vision may not be as sharp as with RGP contacts.

When prescribing a soft contact, my first lens of choice is CibaVision?s O2Optix?. This lens can be worn for up to one week extended wear or two weeks daily wear. For patients who may not want a disposable lens (this is very rare), I will recommend CibaVision?s Cibasoft? Visitint? standard daily wear.

For patients who experience drying with their contacts, I will often recommend contacts with newer, moisture-retaining materials. Such contact lenses include Proclear? Compatibles by CooperVision and Acuvue? Advance? with Hydraclear by Vistakon (Johnson & Johnson). Indeed, Vistakon has recently launched the Acuvue? Oasys? with Hydraclear, which is primarily targeted for patients who experience contact lens dryness.

Regardless of your own situation, chances are good that you will end up wearing a soft lens if you decide to try contacts Be sure to discuss with your eye care provider all the options you may have, given your prescription, age, needs, and expectations.?

About The Author

Dr. Dan Irwin is a practicing optometrist in southeastern Michigan with over 16 years experience fitting contact lenses.
Collagen Injections on the Forefront of Cosmetic Plastic Surgery

by: Harry John

Cosmetic plastic surgery boosts your confidence the way you look. And increase in self-confidence in the look can encourage you to focus your energy on other areas like family and career. There may me certain flaws in your body and face that makeup, diet and exercise can’t help mask. There you should look into the ultimate in makeover, i.e., cosmetic plastic surgery.

The advancement of corrective body and facial surgeries has made the cosmetic procedures easy, affordable and less invasive. This has led many to go for pure cosmetic procedures where aesthetic value comes first.

But, cosmetic procedures are not totally different from reconstructive procedures. Cosmetic surgery also considers your general health conditions and particular physical traits. That’s why you should not plunge into a procedure just for look alteration.

Of many cosmetic procedures collagen injection is a popular procedure embraced by many women to achieve that fuller and perfect lip, and to remove the facial wrinkles.

Collagen injections are all-purpose fillers to fix problems on the face. Collagen is filled into the areas that need plumping-up. For removal of wrinkles, scars, and different marks these are the most suitable stuffs. Collagen can add volume to face giving it smooth appearance.

We all have collagen, a kind of protein, between the skin and the underlying tissues. This collagen helps to build fascia, the network of fibers that gives skin its bounce, volume and softness. That’s why collagen injections are popular in celeb circles and administered as: collagen lip injection, facial collagen injections, buttock collagen injections and scar collagen injections.

Why do we need collagen injections?

Well, we have the collagen in our tissues. But its amount over ages goes on decrease after youth and the skin loses elasticity. Collagen injection helps replenish this condition The idea behind injecting collagen is to replenish this underlying skin structure so that it regains its ability to bounce back. Collagen replacement therapy helps smooth facial lines as well as reduces the look of most types of scars. Taking a collagen injection is as easy as taking any other injection.

Rarely, it does involve some complications like bruising, redness and puffiness of skin. In severe cases, the collagen migrates to other parts of the body. But the complications can be avoided with proper consultation with a surgeon by doing collagen acceptance/rejection test in one’s body.

What are different types of collagen?

? Bovine collagen: Derived from the tissues of cow, the bovine collagen is very compatible with human skin. It has fewer cases of allergy and rejection. Zyderm is the most popular names in bovine collagen.

? Human collagen: It comes from a human donor. Human skin readily accepts this. Zyderm and Zyplast and the two most popular human collagen.

About The Author

After working as a fitness specialist for many celebs, Harry John is enjoying his old age at the Caribbean and occasionally writes for health related issues.

harry@orientinfosolutions.com

Teeth Whitening, The Plain Truth

by: Jonathan Leger

Virtually everyone wanting to brighten their smile can benefit from teeth whitening. Patients with teeth that are discolored due to age, smoking or other extrinsic staining factors are excellent candidates for teeth whitening. Research indicates that teeth whitening is completely effective in more than 78% of people. As teeth whitening continues to grow in popularity, research continues into all types of whitening systems.

Teeth whitening is not permanent, and works by removing the organic materials in the enamel by dissolving them with a peroxide derivative. Also, teeth whitening is only effective if there is a lot of enamel.

There are two principle forms of teeth whitening: professional whitening and teeth whitening kits.

Professional Teeth Whitening

The most effective and safest method of teeth whitening is the dentist-supervised procedure. First, the dentist will determine whether you are a candidate for teeth whitening and what type of whitening system would provide the best results. The dentist should also go over what you personally can expect for your individual situation. Before the teeth whitening treatment, most dentists clean the teeth, fill any cavities, and make sure the patient's gums are healthy.

Dentists will usually advise trying teeth whitening first, to avoid the need for more complex cosmetic work. Complications that can occur in professional teeth whitening are infrequent and are usually minor in nature. Overall, teeth whitening under professional supervision is an effective method for whitening the teeth.

Teeth Whitening Kits

An alternative method to professional teeth whitening is to use a teeth whitening system or kit. Most teeth whitening systems consists of a whitening gel that is placed in mouthpieces that fit over your teeth for various amounts of time. On average, quality teeth whitening kits cost approximately $500 to $800. Budget teeth whitening systems start at around $29.95, though they are generally less effective.

The American Dental Association has granted its seal of approval to some teeth whitening products, so be sure and look for the ADA mark of approval if you are going to purchase a whitening kit. It is important that the manufacturer?s directions are followed precisely when using an at home teeth whitening kit. Also, do not use a teeth whitening product for more than 14 days without consulting a dental professional.

Disadvantages and Limitations of Teeth Whitening

Although teeth whitening is very effective, there can be short term disadvantages, such as sore gums or sore teeth from the bleach. Crowns, bridges, bonding, and fillings only return to their original coloring; they do not lighten any further with professional teeth whitening. Different stains require different solutions, therefore it is important to have a consultation with an oral health professional before trying a teeth whitening product.

While teeth whitening does create brighter smiles, some people?s expectations are very high and they are disappointed with the results.

Research continues into all types of whitening systems. Due to its effectiveness, teeth whitening is sure to continue to grow in popularity. Regular professional teeth cleaning by your dentist will help support the lasting success of teeth whitening.

Consider teeth whitening if your teeth are darkened from age, coffee, tea or smoking.

About The Author

Jonathan Leger runs a website devoted to the latest in dental care.
What Is Eyelid Surgery?

by: Gray Rollins

Eyelid surgery, called blepharoplasty, is a type of cosmetic surgery that removes excess fat from the upper and lower eyelids. Age, illness, and even heredity can result in puffy or drooping eyelids that cause individuals to look tired and worn out. In extreme cases, sagging eyelids may even interfere with vision. Eyelid surgery can correct this by removing extraneous fat and trimming sagging skin and muscle tissue. Once the incisions have healed and the swelling has gone down, eyes look rejuvenated, more alert, and youthful.

Selecting a reputable plastic surgeon is critical to a successful surgery. The surgeon you select should be Board Certified and have considerable experience with blepharoplasty. Once you have selected a surgeon, the initial consultation is very important. Make sure to bring detailed copies of your medical records, since the doctor will need to complete a medical history. The doctor will perform a close examination of your eyes and eyelids, including a vision exam, as well as discuss your goals for the surgery. Your surgeon will also use the initial consultation to go over the details of the procedure, the expected results, the risks, and the costs involved.

If you are considering eyelid surgery, it is important to thoroughly research the procedure, even if this just means talking over the details with your surgeon. Blepharoplasty is a relatively safe procedure, although like all other surgeries, you do run the risk of complications. When performed by a qualified surgeon, complications resulting from blepharoplasty are infrequent and typically minor. Minor complications may include temporary swelling of the eyelids, excess tearing, temporary blurred or double vision, tissue tenderness, sensitivity to light, and scarring at the site of the incision. More serious complications include infections and a reaction to the anesthesia used in the procedure. Occasionally patients find that they have difficulty closing their eyes after blepharoplasty. Most often this is a temporary side effect, although there have been reports of the condition becoming permanent. In rare cases, patients may experience a pulling down of their lower eyelids, called ectropion, which requires additional surgical procedures.

Most eyelid surgeries are performed under a local anesthesia which is used to numb the tissue and muscles around your eyes. Your surgeon may also give you a sedative, either orally or intravenously, to help relax you since patients are kept awake during the procedure. Under local anesthesia, you will not feel any pain but may experience some tugging or pressure during the surgery. In certain circumstances, some surgeons opt to perform blepharoplasty under a general anesthetic, in which case the patient is asleep throughout the entire procedure.

The surgeries typically last from 90 minutes to 3 hours, depending on how many eyelids are to be corrected. During the procedure, the surgeon makes small incisions along the natural lines of the eyelids ? just under the eyelashes on the lower lids and in the deep creases of your upper eyelids. Excess fat is removed through the incision, and sagging muscle and skin are trimmed to neaten your appearance. Once the trimming is completed, your surgeon will use tiny sutures to stitch up the incision.

Once the surgery is complete, your surgeon will advise you on how to care for the incision. You will likely to be told to keep your eyes lubricated with an antibiotic ointment and take pain medication to control any discomfort you feel during the healing process. Cold compresses can be used to minimize swelling and bruising although patients will find that even with the compresses the swelling, tenderness, and bruising will be present for several days and may even last up to a month. Your eyes may tingle and feel gummy or dry for several days as well. Expect to return for a follow-up visit to your surgeon a few days after the procedure for a checkup and removal of your stitches.

Remember that the healing process takes time and it may be several weeks before you are completely recovered. In time the incisions will become less and less noticeable, fading into a thin white line that will be barely noticeable. The end result of the surgery though, should be brighter more alert eyes that make you look well-rested and youthful.

About The Author

Gray Rollins is a featured writer for MyEyeSurgery.
What Is Nutmeg And What Can It Do For Me?

by: Chuck Mason

When we think of nutmeg, we probably bring to mind a glass of egg nog or fragrant holiday cookies. Yet the nutmeg has a fascinating history, and the oil of nutmeg can be used for medicinal purposes. It comes from a tree in Asia that grows to about fifteen feet tall. It has historically been used for medicinal purposes in China, and its use dates back as far as the fifth century. The Caribbean Island of Grenada has taken nutmeg under its wing, producing nearly a third of the supply of the world?s nutmeg.

The nutmeg seed, however, is what gives us the spice of nutmeg. The seed is made up in part by oils and cellulose like material that is sometimes used to make nutmeg butter. Nutmeg oil comes from the seeds. Nutmeg oil is used in some surprising places. Coca Cola uses it as a flavoring for the famous and very popular drink Coke. It is also found in many baked goods, and is a required ingredient in many baking recipes. It is used to flavor candies, certain kinds of syrups, and also some meats. Check the label on any of these products in the grocery store, and you are likely to find nutmeg oil listed.

Would you believe that the cosmetic industry also uses nutmeg? It can be found in many products to provide a better or longer lasting scent to products. It is often used in conjunction with other aromatic spices to further enhance a product?s scent. You?ll even find it in use when you visit the dentist, as it is combined with salicylate and clove to make a flavorful dental cream.

Nutmeg?s best kept secret is its use in the pharmaceutical industry. It has been known for its health benefits and works well on illnesses that affect the liver and the central nervous system, and the digestive system.

Nutmeg has been a useful ingredient in many different aspects of our lives. We might not realize it, but nutmeg is something we come into contact with nearly every day, and we are better for it.

About The Author

Chuck Mason is a successful publisher and researcher of natural and organic methods to relieve pain.
What's In A Name? When It Comes To Your Business, Plenty!

by: Tim Knox

Q: How important is the name of a business? Should the name of a business reflect what the business does or is it better to come up with something catchy and easy to remember? -- Randy P.

A: What's in a name? When it comes to your business, Randy, a lot more than you might think. In fact, deciding on a business name is one of the most important decisions you will ever make. The right business name can help you rise above the crowd while the wrong business name can leave you trampled in the rush.

With the economy in a slump and competition on the rise, now more than ever it is important that you put considerable thought into coming up with the perfect name for your business.

Unfortunately, this is a task that is easier said than done. It seems like all the good business names are either married or? no wait, that's a different subject, but the analogy holds true.

We live in an age when a business called "The Body Shop" might repair wrecked cars or sell skintight jeans to teenagers, so before you send your letterhead to the printer, consider the following points to help you select the business name that's right for you.

The first thing you should do is conduct a little research to determine if the name is already in use by someone else. You would be surprised at how many entrepreneurs forget to research this point and open a business with a name that is already in use. Check with the county clerk and the secretary of state to make sure the name isn't already licensed for use or incorporated with the state. Also check with the U.S. Patent and Trademark office to see if the name is already trademarked, i.e., owned, by someone else. Using another company's trademarked name exposes you to legal action by the trademark owner. Even if your name is just similar to the trademarked name, you may find yourself in court defending your right to use the name. And odds are it's a battle you will lose.

If the name you choose is not in use, you should immediately reserve the name with the secretary of state (if you plan on incorporating) and apply for a trademark to ensure your legal ownership. If you do not trademark the name someone can come along later and attempt to steal the name out from under you. Imagine spending years building up your business only to have some upstart trademark the name and engage you in a legal battle over rightful ownership. This is one fight you don't need, especially when the hassle could have been easily avoided with a few bucks and a few forms.

Another important thing to consider is the domain name for your business. The domain name is the website address a customer will use to find you on the Web. Is the domain name for your business name available? If not, is there a domain similar to the business name you're considering?

You will undoubtedly discover that securing a suitable domain name is actually harder than choosing a business name. Most logical domain names are already reserved, but you might get lucky. Keep in mind that domain names should be short and descriptive, and preferably have the .com or .net extension. You can use other extensions (I've even used the ".to" extension on occasion) if necessary, just keep in mind that you will need to put forth a little extra marketing effort to promote the website address as people typically assume a .com extension as the norm. Whatever you do, don't use a domain name that is a confusing amalgam of letters and numbers that is hard to remember and even harder for your customer to type in.

One good way to approach the task of naming a business is to do so from your customer's point of view. Your business name should clearly define your offering and communicate your message to customers. Put yourself in your customer's shoes for a moment. If you were looking for a business that provides your product or service, what would you expect that business to be called? If you were in the market for computer parts, for example, wouldn't you look for a business that has "computer parts" reflected in the business name? Jim's Computer Parts may not sound as snazzy as Jim's Electronics Emporium, but snazzy doesn't pay the bills. Happy customers who quickly identify you as the source of their purchase do.

The name of your business can also spark subconscious reactions in a customer that may drive them to you or drive them away. Words like quality, complete, executive, best, low-cost, and on time often spark positive reactions in the mind of the consumer. Words like cheap, discount, and used tend to create negative emotions. You'll notice that no one claims to sell used cars anymore, but the dealer lots are loaded with vehicles that are "previously owned."

Finally, let's talk about things to avoid. Experts agree that you should avoid using generic terms like enterprise, corporation, partners, and unlimited as part of your everyday business name. These terms are fine for the legal business entity name, but are often too unclear for everyday use. Can you tell me what any of these companies do: ABC Corporation, Big Dog Enterprises, M&B Partners, and Discounts Unlimited sell? I didn't think so.

Also avoid abstract names like Yahoo, Google, Monster and Flip Dog (I am not going to list the names of the numerous local high tech firms that have bucked this rule :o). Abstract names will require a subtitle to explain what the business does or an expensive marketing campaign that brands the name into the minds of consumers. Unless you have deep pockets, I suggest you go with a name that describes your business at first glance and leave abstraction to the likes of Cher.

Finally, you should avoid hokey names, unless of course, you are starting a hokey business. Crazy Dave's Stereo Shop is a great name if the business is really run by Crazy Dave and his personality is exploited in the marketing of the business.

However, if you want to be taken serious, then give your business a serious name.

Would you go to Crazy Dave's House of Dentistry?

Neither would I.

Here's to your success.

Tim Knox tim@dropshipwholesale.net

About The Author

Tim Knox

Entrepreneur, Author, Speaker

http://www.prosperityandprofit.com

http://www.dropshipwholesale.net

http://www.smallbusinessqa.com

http://www.timknox.com

Laser Eye Surgery ? Will Insurance Pay? Determining the Medical Necessity of ?Cosmetic? Treatments

by: AllMed Healthcare Management

Eye wear may be a fashion accessory, but when you depend on it for seeing the world, it?s a lot more. Today, many people are turning to refractive laser eye surgery, such as Lasik surgery, to improve their vision. However, this high-cost surgery is normally not paid for by insurance because it fails to meet the conservative therapy test and is classified as cosmetic. This trend is shifting.

We are seeing an increasing number of circumstances where refractive eye surgery is determined to be medically necessary and, therefore, payable by the insurance provider. For example, if conservative therapy treatments fail or if a patient is intolerant of contact lenses and cannot wear glasses because they might pose a risk in their job (e.g. police or firefighters), refractive eye surgery may be the most medically viable treatment option.

Conservative Therapy Options:

Examples of conservative therapy treatments include the following:

Photorefractive keratectomy (PRK) ? a refractive laser surgical procedure that is often done (and covered) for a patient that suffers from recurrent corneal erosion (e.g. diabetics). With PRK, a laser is used to remove corneal tissue to correct vision problems.

Patching, epithelial debridement (mechanical removal of faulty tissue), and bandaged contact lens placement ? treatments that often don?t work.

Stromal puncturing ? a procedure involving the physician puncturing the anterior corneal stroma ? can also be used but can fail or result in permanent vision loss. In such cases, PRK is the best alternative for removing the damaged cells (or membranes) and possibly correcting the vision problems.

Physicians can help patients who are in medical need of laser eye surgery make a stronger case by initiating the following:

Document a full medical history of the patient?s eye complaints

Show proof that the patient has not responded to conservative treatments and that the purpose of the surgery is for medical reasons other than simply improved eyesight

Still, even when the physician does this, each decision is taken on a case-by-case basis and is subject to the extenuating circumstances clearly noted in the patient?s medical record.

For more information about medical necessity reviews on cases like this, visit our website or call us at 1-800-400-9916.

About The Author

AllMed Healthcare Management Founded in 1995, AllMed (http://www.allmedmd.com, http://www.allmedmd.com/blog/index.htm) is a URAC-accredited Independent Review Organization (IRO) serving insurance payers, providers, TPAs and claims managers nationwide.
